“I can't imagine working with any other physical therapist! My wife and I have relied on Jen to help us resolve a variety of minor overuse injuries. She helped me to recover from two shoulder surgeries months ahead of my doctor's expectations. Jen doesn't just treat her patients. She gives them the information that they need to help themselves recover more completely”

“I have seen Jen Uschold several times for a variety of issues. I never feel rushed and I always feel listened to. She challenges me to consider what is behind the pain I’m feeling and work with that. Jen is a fantastic clinician who has helped me feel better both physically and mentally.”

“Jen is the best. I've learned a ton from her over the course of my various treatments. I really enjoyed learning about the mind/body/pain connection. That resonated with me in a big way, and I call on that knowledge in my daily life, even post-treatment. This is not your average physical therapy session - I highly recommend spending some time with Jen!”

“Jen worked with me a few years ago around the lower back and hip pain and I found her to be a remarkably able practitioner. In addition to the physical therapy aspect of her work, she emphasizes the emotional aspect of pain as well as nutritional considerations. Jen is also very kind and understanding. I recommend her services very highly.”

“Jen is an incredibly skilled Physical Therapist. Before coming to Jen, I’d been to many therapists for chronic shoulder issues. Jen was like none other that I’d seen and far more effective. I am a Personal Trainer and do a fair amount of heavy lifting. I’d been told by doctors and other therapists that there were things I just wouldn’t be able to do considering my shoulder limitations. Jen was incredibly thoughtful in addressing my whole person, assessing my, addressing the root causes, and giving me the tools to take ownership of my own body and movement. I still go see Jen from time to time if anything crops up, but she always adds another tool to my toolbox so that the visits are very infrequent and there has been nothing in my training world that I’ve been limited from doing! My son is a young high-level athlete and Jen also treats him to keep him strong and injury-free. Jen is simply the best! She’s the only PT in the DMV that I would recommend to friends, family, and clients."

“If you are looking to work through chronic pain — and break free of it — see Jen Uschold. Jen is a unique and extraordinarily talented physical therapist and therapeutic pain specialist. Her knowledge of neuroscience and how it applies to pain is profound, as is her ability to coach and uplift her clients through their journey. I have worked with Jen for 6 months, previously having seen approximately 30 healthcare providers in an effort to heal my 7 years of chronic back pain. Our sessions focus on ways to calm down my overprotective nervous system, so as to help my brain understand that stress does not equal danger, and that I don’t need my brain to generate pain in many circumstances. Thanks in large part to Jen and her dedication to my health, I am on the path of recovery. You could not ask for a more skilled, compassionate therapist than Jen. God has given Jen the ability to help people in need and to care for them with genuine interest in their well-being. She is fully committed to helping restore function and to teach her clients how to build healthy neural connections so they can lead healthier lives. I thank God for Jen and for her knowledge, support and encouragement. As a result of our sessions, my life is all the better.”

“I've had a few consultations with Jen over the last year or two regarding chronic shoulder pain due to a long-ago swim injury. Jen has been incredibly skillful in helping me recognize that not all chronic pain stems from the injury itself. In approaching pain from a neurological perspective in addition to a musculoskeletal perspective, Jen broadens the available tool box on the road to recovery. Using a variety of methods including the Recognise App, imagery, visualization, and others she's been helping me retrain my brain (and body) away from the everyday pain and towards healthy and pain-free movement. I would not be where I am today without her! Thank you, Jen!!”

“Getting ready for my partial left knee replacement surgery was a repeat medical process this year following my right knee replacement in 2019. I projected a complicated rehab due to my left ankle Achilles tendonitis. The pain from my knee and ankle converged and I was at a lost to manage it effectively until Jen found me. Once I learned pain is a decision of the brain, I was better able to manage it by modifying what my brain tells me. I used the Recognise App and meditation to help reorder my thinking about pain. I retrained my brain to use my knee pain as an alarm system. Instead of thinking about my knee hurting, I focused on positive images of a healed knee with no pain. Every time I was jolted by a sharp pain, I replaced the throbbing visual with an image of a straight knee and a sensation of no pain. The more I practiced the imagery along with my physical therapy, the better I felt; the less discomfort I had and the more success I had with my therapy. This allowed me to forego opiates for a longer period of time. I love being in control of how and when I feel pain. The healing process was much more relaxing…and even enjoyable! “

“Jennifer Uschold delivers a unique message to patients in pain. I would summarize the message as follows: "Pain Is Not What You Think It Is." The message is novel and important. But in order for me as a patient to "get" the message, I had to discard my old thinking about pain, and absorb a new paradigm about the topic. That can be difficult. However, Jen has unique talents that are ideal for delivering this message. For example, Jen recognized that I had to absorb the message at my own speed, so she "spoon fed" me at a pace that allowed me to work my way to understanding. I have learned a great deal from this educator. By the way, she is a knowledgeable, experienced physical therapist who listened to what I said, and produced results.”
